An aide said a medical team examined Jarange-Patil and found that he was suffering from weakness, low blood pressure, underweight and related ailments, apart from some existing medical problems.

However, he has adamantly refused to take any medicine or treatment and has vowed to continue his hunger strike until the government accepts his demands on Maratha reservation, the aide said.

A doctor from the government hospital team that examined him on Tuesday said the Maratha leader needed immediate treatment due to his health condition, but he was not willing to take it.

“My fast will continue… Some people are talking sweetly to weaken the Maratha movement, but it will not work. The government should immediately find a solution to the pending demands,” said an exhausted Jarange-Patil in a brief interaction with the media.

Earlier, the Shivba organization leader had warned that he would field candidates on all 288 seats of the Maharashtra Assembly for the October elections if the government failed to fulfill its promises.

Four days after the Lok Sabha election results were declared, Jarange-Patil launched his new movement with a hunger strike in his native village Antarwali-Sarti on 8 June.
