Gaya (Bihar) [India], Japan's Ambassador to India and Bhutan Hiroshi Suzuki on Saturday visited the Mahabodhi Temple in Bodhgaya, Bihar, and took interest in the historical and symbolic significance of the Buddhist monuments built in the complex. Temple.

The ambassador reached Bodhgaya on Friday with a five-member delegation from Patna.

BTMC Secretary Dr Mahasweta Maharathi welcomed him along with BTMC members – Rev Okonogie, Dr Arvind Singh and Kiran Lama.

During his visit to the Mahabodhi Temple on Saturday morning, Suzuki spent an hour there and "took a deep interest in the historical and symbolic significance of the Buddhist monuments built on the Mahabodhi Temple complex and its rich cultural ties with Southeast Buddhists." Country."

The Bodhgaya Temple Management Committee (BTMC) said the ambassador offered lights and incense along with flowers and fruits to the main shrine of the Mahabodhi temple.

The venerable monks of the Mahabodhi Temple chanted the sutras after which the Japanese monks present at the temple invoked the Buddha's blessings on the ambassador and the delegation with Japanese chants.

"His Majesty was taken around the Mahabodhi Temple and offered prayers and flowers under the sacred Bodhi tree," BTMC said.

Suzuki along with his delegation sat under the Bodhi tree for meditation for five minutes.

Later, while visiting the Meditation Park, he rang the Peace Bell three times and proceeded to see the Mukalinda Pond.

Mahasweta Maharathi explained about the various holy sites within the Mahabodhi Temple complex.

After the visit, the Ambassador was presented with souvenirs, which included a replica of the Mahabodhi Temple, the Bodhi Leaf and various publications of the BTMC.
