Jammu: Activists of a Jammu-based organization on Thursday again protested against power cuts and irregular water supply amid rising temperatures.

The protesters, led by Dogra Front and Shiv Sena (DFSS) president Ashok Gupta, held a protest rally in Jammu city.

The protesters were carrying empty buckets, water vessels and the tricolor flag and raising slogans like "Give us electricity, give us electricity" to express their dissatisfaction with the administration.

Temperatures continue to rise in Jammu district, with the city recording this season's highest temperature of 44.8 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, which is about 5.7 degrees above the average.

This heat wave has increased the power and water crisis in many areas.

Last Thursday, a group of women protested at a local railway station, stopping the Vande Bharat train to highlight water scarcity.

“We are protesting against the electricity and water crisis in Jammu,” DFSS chief Gupta told reporters.

“The Lieutenant Governor had promised adequate power supply during the summer season, but we have not seen any improvement,” he said.

Gupta also questioned the grant of Rs 200 crore by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Jal Shakti to strengthen the water supply system in Jammu and Kashmir.

"Where did that money go? Why are we still without water? In 45 degree Celsius temperatures, our children suffer the most due to lack of water and electricity," he said.
