JAMMU: A vital road connecting remote Paddar sub-division in Jammu and Kashmir with Kishtwar district headquarters opened for traffic on Wednesday after remaining closed for 10 days due to massive landslides, a senior government official said.

A landslide had blocked the Kishtwar-Paddar road near Nagaseni on June 30, halting vehicular movement and affecting essential supplies in Paddar sub-division.

"The road was successfully reopened after clearing the landslide (debris) at Pathernaki Point of Nagaseni," Kishtwar Deputy Commissioner Devansh Yadav said.

Yadav, who personally ensured the safety of the newly cleared road by testing his vehicle, expressed his appreciation for the patience of the people and the collaborative efforts of all the stakeholders involved in this important operation.

Yadav visited the landslide-affected area on Tuesday and inspected the road clearance work throughout the day.

The joint efforts of the district administration, police, General Reserve Engineer Force (GREF) and hydroelectric power projects have resulted in success in reopening the road at Patheranaki Slide Point.

The DC said the road has been restored for light vehicles, thereby re-establishing connectivity with Paddar sub-division. Hundreds of stranded people, including pilgrims who had come for the Machail Mata Yatra, have now been able to cross with essential commodities. Padder has been supplied.

On Sunday, Yadav personally reached the landslide site towards Paddar while overseeing the repair of Singhra bridge by GREF officials to ensure supply of essential commodities to the sub-division from Himachal Pradesh.
