Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], In a significant operation, the Border Security Force (BSF) successfully intercepted a large consignment of arms, ammunition and explosives in Kupwara, Jammu and Kashmir. Officials on Thursday said the operation is an important step to thwart possible terrorist activities in the area.

Acting on specific intelligence provided by BSF and confirmed by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kupwara, a joint post was established at Reddy Chowkbal Bazaar. BSF, Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) personnel were deployed at the post. During the search operation, an overground worker (OGW) named Shabbir Ahmed of (Kupwara) was caught.

BSF said one pistol, one pistol magazine, 10 rounds, four hand grenades and two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were recovered from the possession of Shabbir Ahmed.

Reliable sources have indicated that the terrorists were planning to use these weapons and explosives to carry out attacks in Srinagar and its surrounding areas during the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra. BSF said, this operation has significantly disrupted the plans of terrorist groups based in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), which were aimed at destabilizing the peace of Kashmir Valley.

The successful execution of this operation highlights the coordinated efforts and vigilance of BSF, Army and JKP in ensuring the security of the area.
