Srinagar: The BJP on Sunday protested against the killing of party worker and former sarpanch Aijaz Ahmed Shaikh in Shopian and accused the Jammu and Kashmir civil administration of ignoring its requests for security for some party functionaries facing terror threats. .

BJP workers gathered outside the 'Mini Secretariat' in Shopan and raised slogans against the district administration for not providing safe accommodation to vulnerable party leaders and workers.

Sheikh was killed and a tourist couple from Rajasthan were injured in two terrorist attacks in Shopian and Anantnag districts of Jammu and Kashmir late Saturday night.

One of the protesters said, “We have been requesting the deputy commissioner for a year to provide safe accommodation to our leaders and workers but he is delaying. Now we have lost a worker.,

Party spokesperson Altaf Thakur said that there was a mistake on the part of the district administration at some level.

He told the ideologues, "Terrorism will not be allowed to raise its head again in Kashmir, but there has been a mistake on the part of the administration too. The responsibility of the martyrdom of Aijaz lies with the Deputy Commissioner."

“Some time ago, we had written to the deputy commissioner that Aijaz was receiving threatening calls, but he ignored it,” Thakur said.

Meanwhile, neighbors and relatives met Sheikh's family in Hirpora i Shopian and expressed their condolences.Sheikh is survived by his mother, his widow Shabnam Kausar and his three children, including a two-month-old daughter.

Kausar said Sheikh worked for the development of the area and made people aware about schemes like Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

"I want to ask him (the attacker) what did my husband do to her? Did he take her property, which he murdered her? He made my three children orphans and me destitute.
