Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], Another batch of Amarnath Yatra pilgrims began their journey from Pantha Chowk Srinagar base camp on Thursday under tight security measures.

Pilgrims are going through Baltal and Pahalgam routes.

The annual yatra, which lasts for 45 days, is a major concern for the government amid the recent terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir.

The annual pilgrimage (Amarnath Yatra) is conducted by the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board.

Devotees of Lord Shiva undertake the arduous annual pilgrimage to the sacred cave temple located in the Kashmir Himalayas in July–August.

Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann directed the Punjab Police to ensure smooth and safe passage for the pilgrims going for Amarnath Yatra, Special Director General of Police (Special DGP) Law and Order Arpit Shukla on Wednesday directed a high level police Presided over the level meeting. The army, civil administration and other security agencies will take stock of the security arrangements in this regard.

The Information and Public Relations Department, Punjab, said the meeting held in Pathankot focused on strategic preparations for the ongoing Amarnath Yatra, which included diverse aspects such as police deployment, security measures, traffic management and disaster management.

Presiding over the meeting, Special Director General of Police Arpit Shukla discussed the security of the international border and ensuring the safety of the devotees going on Amarnath Yatra.

He said Punjab Police has further enhanced the security level with the deployment of 550 Punjab Police personnel, SOG, sniper squads, bomb disposal and other commando units and high alert has been declared with an eight-second defense line. Blocks set up by Punjab Police.
