The Jain Sangh of Vadodara, led by Maharaj Saheb, on Monday marched to the Collector's residence to lodge a formal complaint besides issuing a three-day ultimatum to restore the idols.

Emphasizing the sanctity of Pavagadh, a revered site, Maharaj Saheb highlighted the historical and religious importance of the idols and urged that they be restored within 72 hours.

He also called for non-violent protest, stressing the importance of unity within the Jain Sangha, as he stressed that it is the responsibility of the government to preserve ancient architecture.

Jain leader Deepak Shah claimed that the idols were destroyed under the supervision of site manager Vikram, who treated them as 'garbage' and threw them away.

“The Jain community will not rest until the statues are restored,” he said.

While Jainism advocates nonviolence, Shah stressed that this principle "should not be mistaken for passivity".

He also warned against attempts to divide the community, as he demanded maintenance of all the temples in Pavagadh, which have been places of worship for centuries.
