The dispute between Ghosh and TMC leadership is not a new thing. After the Saradha chitfund scam bubble burst in 2013, Ghosh, then CEO of Saradha Media Group and a Rajya Sabha member, was arrested and later suspended from the party.

Four years after getting bail, he was appointed TMC spokesperson in 2020 and became the state general secretary of the party in June 2021.
