New Delhi [India], after Rahul Gandhi took oath in Lok Sabha as Member of Parliament (MP) from Raebareli on Tuesday with a copy of the Constitution in his hand, said 'Jai Samvidhan' to reporters while leaving Parliament.

Rahul Gandhi was among the remaining MPs who took oath today after a total of 262 newly elected MPs, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, took oath on Monday, in the inaugural session of the 18th Lok Sabha.

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi, who had come to Parliament to attend the oath-taking of her brother Rahul Gandhi, said she was pleased to see several party leaders taking oath in the 18th Lok Sabha.

"She made us happy (to see Rahul Gandhi take oath). Not only Rahul but also Kishori, Imran," she said.

Priyanka Gandhi was accompanied by her mother and Congress Parliamentary Party president Sonia Gandhi to Parliament on Tuesday.

Yesterday too, as Prime Minister Modi approached the stage to take oath, Rahul Gandhi was seen showing a copy of the Constitution.

Apart from Rahul Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav, Mahua Moitra, Supriya Sule and Kanimozhi are some of the key leaders of the opposition INDIA bloc who will take oath on the second day of the 18th Lok Sabha.

Rahul Gandhi won from Raebareli and Wayanad Lok Sabha constituencies in the recently concluded Lok Sabha polls. While Rahul Gandhi won with a margin of 364422 votes from Wayanad, defeating Annie Raja of the Communist Party of India, in Raebareli he won with a margin of 390030 votes from Raebareli, defeating Dinesh Pratap Singh of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

After Rahul Gandhi announced that he would resign as MP from Wayanad and retain Raebareli constituency, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge announced the candidature of Priyanka Gandhi from Wayanad last week.

If Priyanka Gandhi wins from Wayanad, three members of the Nehru-Gandhi family will be in Parliament: Sonia Gandhi in Rajya Sabha and Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi in Lok Sabha.

Meanwhile, top BJP leaders' efforts to reach a consensus on the speaker of the 18th Lok Sabha failed as the INDIA block decided to nominate eight-time MP K Suresh for the post. His nomination came after BJP's Kota MP Om Birla filed nomination for the same post. Birla previously served as speaker of the 17th Lok Sabha.

This will be the first time that elections will be held for the speaker of the lower house, as traditionally the speaker and deputy speaker of the Lok Sabha have been elected by consensus between the ruling party and the opposition.

Earlier, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said they had informed Rajnath Singh that the opposition is willing to support the NDA president candidate, on the condition that the post of vice president be given to the opposition.
