Baramulla (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], An encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in Hadipora area of Sopore here on Wednesday, police said.
Taking the X, Kashmir Zone Police posted, "Encounter has started in Hadipora area of PD Sopore. Police and security forces are on duty. Further updates to be given."
Since June 9, terrorist attacks have taken place at four places in Reasi, Kathua and Doda in which nine pilgrims and a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan were killed. One civilian and at least seven security personnel were also injured.
Earlier, Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a review meeting on the security scenario in Jammu and Kashmir and directed all security agencies to "work in mission mode and ensure prompt response in a coordinated manner".
Last week on Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also chaired a high-level meeting to discuss the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir after a series of terrorist incidents. The meeting, attended by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and other senior officials, was aimed at assessing the current security scenario in the region.
