New York [USA], Pakistan captain Babar Azam backed his shot selection despite being upset with the way he lost his wicket against Canada on a difficult pitch in New York in the ongoing T20 World Cup.

At the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, Pakistan achieved their first win of the campaign with a comprehensive 7-wicket win over Canada.

Pakistan were heading towards victory but faced some hurdles after Babar lost his wicket to Dillon Heiliger.

This came as a surprise to Pakistan fans as Babar lost his wicket in the same manner as he had against arch-rivals India.

He tried to play a late cut, but he did not get the right connection and the ball went to the wicketkeeper.Expressing his displeasure with the manner of his dismissal, Babar slammed his bat on the grass.

"I got out on that shot. It's my shot but sometimes you need success. So, I was angry. I still try my best," Babar said in the post-match presentation.,

It was a do-or-die match for Pakistan and the players stood up in the clutch moment, keeping their hopes of making it to the Super 8s alive.

The Asian giants chased down 107 in 17.3 overs, which helped them gain two points and improve their Net Run Rate (NRR). The seven-wicket win takes their NRR to 0.19, while the USA is still ahead of them at 0.63.

During the game, commentators believed that Pakistan should have started the game at a faster pace. Babar admitted that NRR was something that was on the players' minds.

“Good for us.We needed this win. Credit to the team. We started well and took wickets with the new ball. We had NRR in mind. The first six overs are very important here. You assess after six overs. Then, we tried to take the spinners. We're going to move forward with the same mentality, things should get better from here."

Pakistan restricted Canada to 107/7 on the back of a strong performance with the ball. In reply, Pakistan won by 7 wickets on the basis of Mohammad Rizwan's inning of 53* runs.

They will face Ireland in their final game of the group stage on Sunday at Central Broward Regional Park, Florida.
