ROME (AP) — Police arrested a Tajik national accused of being an active member of the Islamic State group on Monday after he landed at Rome's international airport after taking a flight from the Netherlands, officials said.

An international arrest warrant has charged the man, identified only as S.I. As reported, he went to Syria to fight for IS in 2014. The man was described as a fugitive who has used multiple aliases, dates of birth and nationalities, including from Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Ukraine.

He was arrested just before noon after landing on a flight from Eindhoven, Netherlands, under tight security in Rome as a result of the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza, police said. (AP)
