New Delhi, July 11 ( ) Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda on Thursday said the Center and states need to work collectively to ensure that women exercise their right to decide family planning options. and they are not burdened with unwanted pregnancy.

Leading a discussion on “Healthy timing and spacing of pregnancies for the well-being of mother and child” at a virtual event on the occasion of World Population Day, he said that “we need to work towards maintaining a low TFR (total fertility rate) in the states.” Work needs to be done. They have already achieved it and are working towards achieving it in other states.

The Minister said that there is access to modern contraceptives in the basket of options and it should be ensured that the unmet needs of contraceptives are met, especially in high burden states, districts and blocks.

Nadda also released a set of new information education communication (IEC) materials on family planning and population control.

"The Center and states need to work collectively to ensure that women can exercise their right to decide family planning choices and are not burdened with unwanted pregnancies," Nadda said.

He also appreciated the commitment and dedication of the frontline workers of the Health Ministry and the Department and said that the achievements in family planning and population control would not have been possible without them.
