Guwahati, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday described Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren's possible replacement with the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and the Congress as "extremely disturbing".

Soren is set to replace outgoing Chief Minister Champai Soren, who took over when the former was jailed earlier this year in a money laundering case linked to an alleged land scam.

Sarma, who is co-incharge of Jharkhand, posted on Twitter, "It is extremely saddening that JMM and Congress party have removed a senior tribal leader from the post of Chief Minister in Jharkhand."

JMM and Congress are components of the ruling coalition in Jharkhand.

Sarma said that he is sure that the people of Jharkhand will strongly condemn this action and strongly reject it.

The Assam Chief Minister has visited the state several times since the Lok Sabha elections and held meetings with senior BJP leaders regarding the upcoming assembly elections.

He said that the leaders and MLAs of the coalition government unanimously decided to elect Hemant Soren as the leader of the JMM legislature party during a meeting at the residence of Chief Minister Champai Soren here.
