The response, handed down by Egyptian and Qatari mediators with US support, is currently under review by Israel, Xinhua news agency reported.

"Israel is investigating the response and will provide its response to the mediators at the appropriate time," the statement said Wednesday.

The development marks a new effort to negotiate an end to the nearly nine-month-long conflict, which has resulted in the deaths of more than 37,900 Palestinians in the Strip, according to Gaza-based health officials.

On October 7, 2023, Israel launched a massive offensive into the Gaza Strip following a Hamas attack through the southern Israeli border, during which about 1,200 people were killed and 240 were taken hostage.
