On Wednesday, Ireland announced recognition of the State of Palestine in a joint move with Norway and Spain.

The decision will formally come into effect in all three countries on Tuesday (March 28).

In response, Israel warned that this would have "serious consequences".

Ireland's ambassador to Israel, along with their Spanish and Norwegian counterparts, were summoned to the Israeli Foreign Ministry for reprimand.

As part of the "solemn demarche", the three ambassadors were shown videos of Hama carrying out kidnappings.Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz claimed that Ireland and Harris had "rewarded terrorism".

Discussing the rebuke on Thursday, Harris said Irish Ambassador Sonny McGuinness was doing an "excellent" job representing Ireland's views.

He said, "Any Foreign Office can summon any ambassador but I will not tolerate any country misrepresenting the position of the Irish people."

“I am the leader of the Irish Government, I speak on behalf of Ireland and we have said clearly and unequivocally that we condemn Hamas, that we condemn the most horrific, barbaric massacre carried out by Israel on October 7.”

“We call for the unconditional and immediate release of all hostages.,

"But it is entirely possible to say what I have just said and also to say further

, is a humanitarian disaster."

"Children are being starved, being deprived of food, and there are children who will sleep in Gaza tonight not sure whether they will wake up in the morning."

"This situation is not sustainable. It needs to stop."

"I have no intention of being distracted in any way, shape or form from the urgent need to stop the violence in the Middle East; the release of the hostages is needed in order for humanitarian aid to flow unobstructed and uninterrupted."A peace agreement."

Speaking on CNN, Harris said: "And I can say this to the people of Israel: We recognize the State of Israel."

"We recognize Israel's right to live in peace and security."

“It is their right. The people of Palestine should have the same right to peace and security.,

He added, "And let me say this to the people of Israel, too. The Irish people know what it's like to have their national identity hijacked by a terrorist organization."

“The IRA (Irish Republican Army) were never the people of Ireland and Hamas was never the people of Palestine.”

Earlier, Harris said recognition of Palestinian statehood was aimed at creating "momentum toward a peace process" with Israel.

Speaking in Dublin on Thursday, the Irish Prime Minister was asked about the warnings issued by Israel."I had a very good conversation with the President of Israel (Issa Herzog) last Friday. It was firm but respectful," he said.

"We exchanged views and I outlined the Irish position, so I don't think anyone in the world, least of all Israel, Ireland, Norway and Spain, would have been surprised by the decision taken yesterday."

“I fundamentally believe this is the right decision. This is an effort to try and create momentum toward a peace process that may seem far-fetched, but I absolutely and essentially need it.,

"The only way to bring peace and stability to the people of Israel and Palestine is a two-state solution."
