TEL AVIV [Israel], As the war between Israel and Hamas continues unabated, the closure of Al Jazeera's operations in Israel is being pushed forward by Israeli Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi, Anadolu Agency reported on Sunday.

Regarding the ban, the Israeli minister stressed that it was "adopted unanimously by the government based on updated opinions from all security sources, which clearly state that the channel's broadcasts pose a real threat to the security of the state." "

"We will not allow the Al Jazeera terrorist channel to broadcast in Israel and endanger our troops," Kahri said in a statement.

"The closure orders will be extended in future also," he said.

However, according to Anadolu Agency, the minister did not specify whether the ban was extended for much longer. However, the Israel Hayom newspaper reported that the closure has been extended for 45 days.

Meanwhile, the Tel Aviv District Court on Wednesday last week upheld the ban for 35 days instead of the 45 days requested by Karahi on Al Jazeera television, Anadolu Agency reports.

On May 5, the Israeli government voted unanimously to shut down the operations of Qatari news outlet Al Jazeera in Israel, nearly six months after announcing its intention to do so due to security concerns related to the Israel–Hamas war.

Israeli Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi signed an executive order shortly after the vote was passed and it went into effect immediately.

Al Jazeera has faced significant criticism from Israeli leaders, particularly for its detailed reporting of Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip. The conflict escalated in Gaza following an October 7 attack by Hamas, where about 2,500 militants crossed the border from the Gaza Strip into Israel, causing casualties and capturing hostages.

Since then, Israel has characterized its Gaza offensive as targeting Hamas infrastructure with the goal of eliminating the entire terrorist group while attempting to minimize civilian casualties.
