Tel Aviv [Israel], Israel Defense Forces on Wednesday morning launched an offensive against Hamas efforts to re-establish itself in the northern Gaza city of Shejaya.

The previous day, the Israeli Air Force destroyed 50 Hamas infrastructure sites. Meanwhile, ground forces discovered operational tunnel shafts and seized weapons including AK-47 rifles, grenades, magazines and other military equipment.

Airstrikes in the Gaza area south of Rafah destroyed Hamas infrastructure and eliminated militants.

In central Gaza, airstrikes eliminated militants who posed a threat to ground forces.

Meanwhile, Israel on Tuesday began increasing the amount of electricity it supplies to Gaza to operate its water desalination and sewage systems.

Defense Minister Yoav Galant approved the move, saying that increasing electricity was necessary to provide drinking water for the "basic humanitarian needs" of Palestinians sheltering in humanitarian areas.

To prevent Hamas from stealing electricity, the electricity is transferred directly to the desalination plant located in Khan Yunis. Once fully connected, the plant is expected to provide 20,000 cubic meters of water per day. As of now, the plant, which runs on generators and solar power, produces only 1,500 cubic meters of water per day.

Israel cut Gaza off from its electricity grid in October.

On October 7, Hamas attacks on Israeli communities near the Gaza border killed at least 1,200 people and took 252 Israelis and foreigners hostage. Of the 116 remaining hostages, more than 30 are believed dead.
