New Delhi: Amid the opposition's demand to re-conduct the medical entrance exam NEET, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Thursday said sporadic incidents of malpractice should not impact lakhs of students who have cleared the exam correctly.

He announced a high-level panel to probe the functioning of testing agency NTA.

Addressing a press conference here, Pradhan also appealed to the opposition parties not to politicize the issue and said strict action would be taken against those found guilty, including National Testing Agency (NTA) officials.

The minister said that a high-level committee will be notified soon to review and improve the functioning of NTA.

Regarding the cancellation of UGC-NET exam for selection of Junior Research Fellow, Assistant Professor and PhD scholars, Pradhan said that the exam paper was leaked on the darknet.

“We must have faith in our system and the government will not tolerate any irregularity or malpractice,” he said.

The NEET exam was conducted on May 5 across 4,750 centers and around 24 lakh candidates appeared for it. The results were expected to be declared on June 14, but were announced on June 4, citing that the evaluation of answer sheets was completed earlier.

Unprecedented in the history of NTA, 67 students scored full 720 marks, including the names of six from a center in Faridabad, Haryana, in the list, raising suspicions of irregularities. It has been alleged that Grace Marks contributed to 67 students sharing the top rank.

NEET-UG exam is conducted by NTA for admission to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH and other related courses in government and private institutions across the country.
