Although Jadeja was out in this unusual fashion, Chennai Super Kings chased Rajasthan Royals' total of 141/5 by scoring 145/5 in 18.2 overs and won the match by five wickets.

Jadeja might be regretting the umpire's decision as he was given out for obstructing the field, leaving Chennai in a difficult position.

The incident occurred in dramatic fashion in the 16th over and the stadium echoed with jeers.

Jadeja tried to take the second run by sliding a short ball from Avesh Khan towards third man. He was sent back by Ruturaj Gaikwad, who did not answer the call. Sanju Samson collected the throw and then fired from the other end, in the process catching Jadeja behind.

Rajasthan Royals appealed for fielding interference as Jadeja was roaming wide. The third umpire decided that Jadeja knew where the ball was going and so he swung in a way to cut the throw reaching the intended end.

The third umpire ruled against Jadeja and the all-rounder was given out for obstructing the field. The third umpire resorted to Section 37.1 of the Rules of Cricket and declared him out.

Section 37.1.4 of the Laws of Cricket states, "For the avoidance of doubt, if an umpire considers that a batsman running between the wickets has changed his direction without probable cause and thereby called a runout, On appeal, the batsman should be given out for obstructing the field, regardless of whether a run out would have occurred.

Jadeja was unhappy with the decision as he argued that the ball hit his back accidentally and there was no deliberate attempt to stop it. He argued with the umpires before finally leaving the field.
