Delhi Capitals got off to a good start on a slow wicket at Eden Gardens as opener Prithvi Shaw hit three fours in Mitchell Starc's first over and edged the ball straight to wicketkeeper Fee Salt down the leg side. As usual, Starc did not have a good start but from the other end, Vaibhav Arora dismissed Shaw on the score of 13.

Jake Fraser-McGurk struggled to time the ball in this match, but was not able to collect a four and a maximum in Starc's second over before being bowled high for 12 runs. Shai Hope was bowled by Arora in the very next over as Dee retired the power. Play at -67/3.

This pitch at Eden has not been like the pitches earlier in the season. It seemed as if KKR had sought some more help for the spinners after their sixer-fest loss against Punjab Kings. And the pitch really suits their two mystery spinners.

DC captain Rishabh Pant and Abhishek Porel added 31 runs but after their partnership ended, wickets kept falling from the other side. Porel (18), Axa Patel (15), Tristan Stubbs (4) and Kumar Kushagra (1) were out cheaply as DC reached 67 for 3 in nine overs, reducing to 101/6 in 13 overs. .

Pant, after an entertaining innings of 27 runs in 20 balls, fell victim to Chakravarthy while attempting a slog-sweep towards deep midwicket and the ball went straight into the air.Chakraborty also took the wickets of Stubbs and Kushagra, making it a three-fer for them. Chakravarthy ended his spell with impressive figures of 3-16 from four overs.

Kuldeep Yadav, who showed his batting prowess in the Test series against England before the IPL, played a very useful innings in the IPL and took Delhi beyond 150 runs.

There were two edged fours early on and also almost a catch on the boundary. With four overs remaining, Capitals' score was 128/8.Yadav and Rasik Salam Dar added 27 runs for the ninth wicket.

Yadav's brilliant inning of 35 runs in 29 balls with the help of five fours and a six took Delhi Capitals to 153/9 in 20 overs.
