On a red clay pitch, the only thing that made sense for SRH was to win the toss as they never found any partnership or momentum to post the lowest score in the IP final. Starc and Vaibhav Arora bowled consistently in the good length region, the ball was swinging consistently, before others got the grip and put SR in trouble.

Such was the brilliant bowling performance that every KKR bowler got at least a wicket to his name. KKR now have to chase 114 runs to win their third IPL title. Starc gave KKR a brilliant start right from the start when he hit a ball that started off leg-stump onto the upper side of Abhishek Sharma's off-stump and went away sharply. In the next over, a seaming ball from Arora resulted in Travis Hea being out for a golden duck. After early movement, Starc bowled a short cross-seam delivery which Rahul Tripathi tried to flick but ended up taking a big top edge to the mid-wicket fielder. Aiden Markram and Nitish Kumar Reddy did not counter-attack with four quick fours.

But there was no stopping KKR as Harshit Rana bowled three slower balls before a seam-up delivery which took Reddy's edge on a drive past the keeper. Markram was about to fall, pulling a short ball to long on with extra bounce from Russell.Wickets continued to fall for SRH as Shahbaz Ahmed swept Varun Chakraborty to short fine leg, followed by influential Abdul Samad who edged Russell's delivery away from his body to the keeper and Heinrich Klaasen edged a slower ball. Played on high stump. Joyful.

A few fours from captain Pat Cummins, who top-scored with 24, took SRH past 100. But he and Jaydev Unadkat were out in quick succession as one of the most aggressive batting lines of the tournament collapsed for 113 runs.

Brief scores: Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Kolkata Knight Riders 113 in 18.3 overs (Pat Cummins 24, Ed Markram 20; Andre Russell 3-19, Mitchell Starc 2-14).
