Senior officials of Jammu, BSF and police gathered at a high-level inter-state security review meeting in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua on Thursday, days after terrorists, who are believed to have infiltrated from across the International Border, A patrol party was ambushed.

On Monday, five army personnel, including a junior commissioned officer, were killed and several injured when terrorists opened fire on two army vehicles on the Machedi-Kindli-Malhar hill road near Badnota village, about 150 km from the Kathua district headquarters.

Officials said the terrorists are believed to have successfully infiltrated through the International Border and managed to reach the dense forests of Machedi, which connects Basantgarh in Udhampur and Bhaderwah in Doda district.

Terrorists had also used this route in the past when terrorism was at its peak in the region two decades ago. The area was cleared of terrorist presence but the resumption of terrorist activities has raised serious security concerns.

As the massive search for terrorists continued for the fourth day on Thursday, so far more than 50 people have been detained for questioning.
