Thane Police on Wednesday claimed to have busted a drug racket spread across four states with the arrest of 15 people and seizure of mephedrone and raw materials worth Rs 327.69 crore in the last two months.

The mega operation was carried out in Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana and Gujarat since May, during which several premises were raided and drug manufacturing units unearthed, Police Commissioner Mira Bhayander-Vasai Virar said at a press conference. Madhukar Pandey.

Raw materials worth Rs 300 crore were seized from a drug manufacturing unit in UP, he said.

Four firearms and several live cartridges were also seized from an accused in Palghar district of Maharashtra, the official said.

Those arrested include eight from UP, three from Maharashtra and Telangana and one from Gujarat, according to police.

Giving details of the operation, Pandey said that on May 15, crime branch officials arrested two persons during a check at Chena Gaon in Thane district of Maharashtra and seized 1 kg of MD (mephedrone) worth ₹2 from them. crores.

A case was registered under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act against the duo, hailing from Vasai in neighboring Palghar district.

During interrogation, one of the accused led the police to a factory in Narsapur, Telangana, the official said.

Police raided the unit and seized 103 grams of MD valued at Rs 20.60 lakh and 25 kg of raw materials worth Rs 25 million.

On May 17, the police arrested two people there who were involved in the manufacture of the drug, the official said.

After interrogation, the police arrested one person from Varanasi in UP and another man from Goregaon in Mumbai from whom 71.10 grams of MD worth Rs 14.38 lakh was seized, he said.

Further questioning of the accused led police to nab a person from his house in Padgha, Thane, and seize accessories worth Rs 53,710 used for manufacturing drugs and chemicals, the official said.

During investigation, the police received a tip-off that a Mumbai man, who is yet to be caught, transferred funds required for drug manufacturing and sale proceeds through a person from Surat in Gujarat, he said.

The police traced that person to Surat and seized Rs 10.84 lakh in cash sent to him, the official said.

They learned that some of it was also sent through angadias (traditional courier service).

The police traced two angadias to Bhendi Bazar in Mumbai and seized Rs 6,80,200 sent to them, he said.

Police later zeroed in on Jaunpur, UP, where some of the accused ran a mephedrone factory.

They seized 300 kg of raw material kept in drums and valued at Rs 300 million from the unit and arrested three people on June 25, the official said.

Three more people involved in the crime were arrested in Lucknow on June 26, he said.

The accused also informed the police about another person who was caught from Nalla Sopara in Palghar on Monday.

The police confiscated three pistols, a revolver and 33 cartridges from his possession, the official said.

According to police, an investigation is underway to determine if more people are involved in the mega fraud.
