Imphal, Manipur government on Monday lifted the temporary suspension of internet services in five districts of the valley with immediate effect.

Commissioner (Home) N Ashok Kumar said the state government has reviewed the prevailing law and order situation and decided to lift the internet suspension, which was imposed on September 10, as a preventive measure in public interest.

On 13 September, the state government "conditionally" lifted the ban on broadband services.

"The state government has decided to remove any form of internet suspension in the state of Manipur, which was imposed in good faith as preventive measures in public interest," he said in an order issued by the Home Department.

Internet services have been temporarily suspended in Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, Thoubal and Kakching districts from 3 pm on September 10 in view of student protests demanding removal of the DGP and security advisor for alleged inability to deal with militant attacks. Was formally suspended.

The protests resulted in clashes with security forces, in which more than 80 people, including students and police personnel, were injured.

The order said that all internet users are requested to desist from such activities which may lead to a situation which may lead to suspension of internet services in future.

Earlier in the day, Chief Minister N Biren Singh said in a social media post, "Internet restrictions will be lifted in the state, and services will be restored. I urge everyone to use the Internet responsibly and avoid sharing or posting I request." Any unnecessary or inflammatory material which may disturb the peace and harmony in the State”.
