New Delhi, Veteran Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami on Friday shared the progress of his rehabilitation process after undergoing surgery on his Achilles tendon, and stressed his strong desire to return to the field as soon as possible.

Shami played last year's ODI World Cup despite pain and finished the tournament as the leading wicket-taker with 24 wickets. But since the final against Australia, the 33-year-old has been completely ruled out due to injury.

He finally had surgery in February.

"Injuries don't define you, your comeback will. I can't wait to get back with my team!" Shami posted on his Instagram handle and was accompanied by a video that showed him in the middle of a procedure

Since the World Cup, Shami has missed the T20 series against Australia, the South Africa tour and the home tour against Afghanistan (T20Is and England (Test)).

His ankle surgery means Shami will also miss the IPL 2022 for Gujarat Titans, for whom he has taken 48 wickets in 33 matches, in 2022 and 2023.

Having been absent throughout the IPL, it is highly unlikely that Shami will be included in India's squad for the T20 World Cup in June.
