Indore: Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) has said it will withdraw the new uniform of its anti-encroachment squad after the opposition Congress alleged that it resembled military attire and amounted to an insult to the army.

The uniform features a camouflage pattern, typically associated with military forces.

Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava said in a statement on Thursday that the civic body has decided to give its anti-encroachment squad employees a uniform to bring uniformity in their attire besides promoting discipline.

"If this uniform is hurting any person's sentiments, necessary changes will be made," he said.

Earlier, Congress's Chintu Chowksey, leader of opposition in the IMC, had claimed that the civic body had insulted the Army by choosing "soldier's uniform" for the anti-encroachment squad personnel.

He had said, “These employees are notorious for extortion from street vendors and vendors.”
