"The eruption occurred at 12:45 p.m. local time and lasted 373 seconds," Mount Ibu monitoring official Axel Roero said Sunday.

It was the biggest eruption since Ibu volcano's danger status was raised to the highest level on May 16, 2024, Roero was quoted as saying by Xinhua news agency.

The Center for Aviation Safety has issued a volcano observation notice for aviation warning with red code for the North Maluku region and its surrounding area.

Officials advise residents to stay away from the area 7 km north of the active crater and 4 km around.
