Jakarta [Indonesia], Indian women's doubles pair of Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa reached the pre-quarterfinal stage of the ongoing Indonesia Open on Wednesday.

Crasto and Ponnappa defeated Canadian pair of Jackie Dent and Crystal Lai 21-15, 21-15 in 33 minutes.

On the other hand, in the women's singles competition, shuttler Akarshi Kashyap crashed out of the competition after losing to Ratchanok Intanon 18-21, 6-21 within two games.

Two-time Olympic medalist and top Indian shuttler PV Sindhu suffered a defeat in the first round of the Indonesia Open 2024 in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Sindhu faced Taiwan's Wen Chi Su in the first round of women's singles and lost 21-15, 15-21 and 21-14.This match lasted for one hour and ten minutes.

The Taiwanese shuttler dominated the first set against the Indian player and won the set 21-15. However, Sindhu made a comeback in the second set and won it 15-21. However, the Olympic medalists failed to maintain the momentum and lost the third set 21-14.

Earlier, PV Sindhu had to face defeat in the second round in Singapore Open. After a tough three-game match that lasted one hour and eight minutes, Sindhu lost 21-13, 11-21, 20-22 against Carolina Marin.This was Sindhu's sixth consecutive defeat to Marin. The Indian badminton player's most recent win came over her Spanish opponent in the Malaysia Open 2018 quarterfinals. When the two shuttlers faced each other in the Rio 2016 Olympic final, Marin emerged victorious.

Sindhu, who is now ranked 12th in the world badminton rankings, made a good start to the match on Thursday. He dominated from the start and won the opening game easily.But after winning the second game, world number three Marin regained her concentration and played the deciding game.

Even though Sindhu was leading 18-15 at one point in the third game, Marin was able to claw herself back in the nail-biter to seal the win. As a result, Marin currently has a 12-6 lead over Sindhu.

On the other hand, the Indian pair of Rutaparna Panda and Swetaparna Panda faced defeat in the women's doubles of Indonesia Open 2024.

Rutaparna and Swetaparna lost 21-12 and 21-9 against South Korea's Kim So Yeong and Kong Hee Yong in the first round of the Indonesia Open.This match lasted only 36 minutes. The South Korean rivals dominated the game from the very first moment and defeated the Indian pair in two straight sets.

The competition began on June 4 and will run until June 9 in Jakarta, Indonesia.
