New Delhi: IndiGo has removed two pilots and four cabin crew members from the Delhi-Varanasi flight in which 176 passengers were evacuated following a bomb threat earlier this week, according to sources.

On 28 May, following a bomb threat, which later turned out to be a hoax, all passengers on board the plane at Delhi airport were evacuated through emergency slides.

In a video clip of the evacuation that went viral on social media, a pilot was seen coming out of the plane through the emergency slide with luggage. Under international norms, passengers and crew are not allowed to take their luggage at the time of evacuation. Due to which the withdrawal time will increase. The wet-lease aircraft was to operate a flight from the national capital Varanasi on Tuesday (May 28) morning.

One of the sources said the two pilots, who were from the lessor company, along with four IndiGo cabin crew members, have been demoted.

Generally, under a wet lease arrangement, the crew, insurance and other aircraft related matters are taken care of by the lessor.

A source in the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) confirmed that the crew has been evacuated.

Specific details regarding derostering could not be immediately ascertained."Safety is our prime concern and our crew acted accordingly in the best interest of the safety of our customers. As with all safety and security programmes, this will be reviewed by our flight safety team," an IndiGo spokesperson said in a statement.

The review covers a number of things that are being investigated by the flight safety team.

A senior commander, who has flown wide-body aircraft for many years, said that during emergency evacuation, passengers are not allowed to carry their bags and should also avoid heeled shoes as they could puncture the inflated emergency slides. Are.

Additionally, carrying luggage will also increase the evacuation time.Under international norms, flight evacuation must be completed in 90 seconds using the emergency exit.

A senior cabin crew from another carrier, who was part of the emergency evacuation, had earlier said that the basic instruction to passengers during an emergency evacuation is to leave everything behind.

Carrying luggage will not only delay evacuation, but may also damage the inflated emergency slide. He said even the flight crew members were not allowed to carry their luggage.

According to information available on the website SKYbrary, aircraft manufacturers are required to demonstrate that an aircraft, in maximum density configuration, can be completely evacuated within 90 seconds using only half the total number of emergency exits."Ninety seconds has been established as the maximum evacuation time because tests have shown that, in a post-accident fire, conditions favorable for flashover are unlikely to occur within that time period.

"However, experience with actual evacuations, particularly those unexpected from completed aircraft, where abnormal conditions arise during or shortly after landing, indicates that evacuation times are typically longer than those displayed for certification purposes. Is,” it said.
