New Delhi: Chief of Defense Staff General Anil Chauhan on Friday said India's defense indigenization and self-reliance efforts are important to achieve strategic independence in the defense sector.

He was addressing the first Armed Forces BEML Synergy Meet 2024 here, the Defense Ministry said in a statement.

Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal VR Choudhary along with senior officers of the Army, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard also attended the event.

The statement quoted the CDS as saying that India's defense indigenization and 'self-reliance' efforts are important to achieve strategic independence in the defense sector.

"The concept of self-reliance underlines our objective to achieve autonomy in defense production and establish an ecosystem that positions India as a leading global defense exporter," he said.

The objective of the first of its kind event was to deepen the understanding and provide state-of-the-art solutions to meet military needs in the near future and further strengthen 'self-reliance' in defence.

General Chauhan stressed the importance of joint integration to achieve synergy in line with the government's agenda for military modernisation.

The event served as a platform for open dialogue and strengthening relations between BEML and the armed forces.

The objective of the discussion was to promote mutual development and ensure that the defense sector can meet the emerging challenges and demands of modern military operations through equal collaboration with defense PSUs like BEML.

The synergy meeting paved the way for future cooperation, enhanced the efficiency and effectiveness of defense solutions and contributed to the security and technological advancement of the country.
