New Delhi: Union Minister Jitendra Singh on Saturday said the country's public sector undertakings have measured up to global benchmarks and are the engine of its growth and development.

At an event here, he said, "India today excels on most global benchmarks, in some areas it is at par with other large nations, while in other areas it is far ahead of them."

Singh, Minister of State for Personnel, praised public sector undertakings (PSUs) for their constant contribution to the Indian economy and for being the drivers of growth and development.

The rise of the Indian economy has been possible due to the contribution of PSUs, he said.

The power supplies have been on par with global benchmarks and standards, the minister said.

"Thanks to its unparalleled efforts, India has risen in the global innovation index. Today it ranks 40th globally, ahead of many economies of comparable size, up from 81st in 2014," Singh said. . in a statement issued by the Ministry of Personnel.

The reason Indian PSUs have excelled in current times is because they have given up the hesitation in bringing in private players, he said, while attending the first 'ET Government PSU Awards' organized by the 'Economic Times'.

Acknowledging his efforts, the minister also awarded several PSUs in different categories.

“In the skill development category, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) received the gold award, while BHASHINI received gold in the AI ​​adoption and predictive technology category.

"Other categories were employee self-service, where HPCL received the gold award. (In) the indigenous technology adoption (category), BHEL received a gold award. Other winners were CDAC, EESL, etc.," it reads the notice.
