Bengaluru: Debutant fast bowler Arundhati Reddy said the plan was to bowl slower balls in the final over bowled by Pooja Vastrakar in the second ODI against South Africa, which India won by four runs here on Wednesday.

Vastrakar took the crucial wicket of Nadine de Klerk and defended 11 runs in the last over as the hosts restricted South Africa to 321 for six after scoring 325 for three and won the three-match series 2-0. Took a winning lead of 0.

“The conversations and planning that went into it (the final over)… I think the message to Pooja as she bowled her first three balls was to try to slow it down. I think she stuck to it and that's how she got the wicket,” Arundhati said during the post-match press meet.

Arundhati herself bowled the 19th over brilliantly and gave only 12 runs despite de Klerk hitting a six.Arundhati said that she was mentally prepared for that over.

“Coming to the end of that over, I have got used to bowling those overs for DC (Delhi Capitals) in the WPL. I am ready for it and I like bowling difficult overs.

“Again the focus is more on that. I think if you keep thinking about what went wrong, you'll never be able to come back.,

Arundhati said that the team was never relaxed after South Africa took the first three wickets.

“Both of them (Centurians Laura Wolvaardt and Marizanne Kapp) played quality shots. I don't think we rested at any time. These things keep happening during the game.

“But what is more important is how you bounce back. I think, after all, we won the game. So, I am very happy.

The plan was to take the target deep: Kapp

,

Kapp, who scored a brilliant century, said that despite losing early wickets, South Africa were confident of chasing the big target.

“We have played here before, so you know how good the wicket is, and everyone loves chasing here. So, when I joined, I thought let's try and take it as deep as possible,” Capp said in the post-match press conference.

Kapp said he was confident of scoring more than 100 runs in the last 10 overs.“Even if we have to chase 100 in the last 10, we know it is possible in this outfield and on this wicket. So, our goal was just to create a partnership and take it as deep as possible,” she said.
