Singapore: An Indian woman was accused of repeatedly stabbing a six-year-old boy with a pen at a childcare center here in 2022, leaving marks on his face and scalp.

The 43-year-old woman was handed one count of abusing a child in her care under the Children and Young Persons Act.

According to a report by Channel News Asia, the court issued a blanket ban order, barring publication of the identity of the victim, the identity of the accused as well as the location of the incident.

The report said that as per the charge sheet, the woman is an Indian citizen and permanent resident of Singapore.

The boy was in her care at a childcare center on November 16, 2022, when she allegedly hit him on the head multiple times with a pen.

As a result, the boy suffered a 1 cm long abrasion on his scalp, a 2 cm long abrasion above his eyebrow and a 1.5 cm long abrasion on his scalp.

The woman indicated that she would plead guilty.

He was offered bail of SGD 15,000 and his case will be heard again in June.

If found guilty of abusing a child in his care, he faces up to eight years in prison, a fine of up to SGD 8,000, or both.
