LAHORE: An Indian Sikh pilgrim died of cardiac arrest in Lahore on Monday, a Pakistani official said.

Around 2,400 Indian Sikh pilgrims, who arrived here via Wagah border on April 13 to participate in the Baisakhi festival, left for their homeland on Monday.

Evacuee Trust Property Board spokesperson Amir Hashmi said, "67-year-old Sardar Jangir Singh, son of Jarnail Singh, resident of Patiala, died of cardiopulmonary arrest on Monday."

He said Singh suffered a heart attack while staying at Gurdwara Dera Sahi Lahore. “He was immediately taken to Mayo Hospital Lahore where the doctor declared him brought dead,” Hashmi said.

He said that the body was handed over to the Indian security forces at the Wagah border.

During their 10-day stay, the Indian Sikhs participated in the main festival at Gurdwara Panja Sahib Hasan Abdal. The pilgrims also visited Gurdwara Janmasthan Nankana Sahib, Gurdwara Sachcha Sauda Sheikhupura, Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur, Gurdwara Rori Sahib, Gujranwala and Gurdwara Dera Sahib Lahore.
