Mangaluru (Karnataka): Surfers from Tamil Nadu dominated the events on the first day of the fifth Indian Open of Surfing (IOS) Championships on Friday, outclassing surfers from other states and making it to 15 out of 16 quarterfinals in the men's open category. .

The top scores came from the top-seeded surfers, with current fourth-ranked Shivraj Babu (15.50) emerging as the day's top scorer, followed by Ajeesh Ali (15.33) and Srikanth D (13.50).

Surfers from Tamil Nadu took command in the men's op category in the first day's rounds. A total of 14 surfers will compete in the quarterfinals on Saturday morning to secure a spot in the semi-finals.

The quarterfinalists in this category are: Shivraj Babu, Ajeesh Ali, Srikanth D, Harish M, Tayin Arun, Manivannan T, Sanjay Selvamani, Surya P, Sanjaykumar S, Manikandan M, Ruban V, Subramani M, Akilan S, and Manikandan I.
