New Delhi: Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Wednesday said Indian exporters are conscious about quality standards and the problem of consignment of some spices is very small and there is no need to exaggerate it.

He said the consignments which had some problems were small compared to India's food and related product exports worth US$56 billion.

Asked about the recent incident, Goyal told reporters, "I think the media should avoid exaggerating one or two incidents... They were company-specific issues which were reported by FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) Authority) and the concerned authorities." Issues regarding consignment of some spices.

Some products of MDH and Everest were rejected by Singapore and Hong Kong for allegedly containing carcinogenic pesticide 'ethylene oxide' in excess of acceptable limits.

The minister said that even consignments coming from developed countries are rejected over quality issues.

He said, "India is very proud of its quality standards. Indian industry, trade and exporters are very conscious of maintaining the highest quality standards and hence our exports of agriculture and agriculture related products are continuously growing."

Spices exports declined by 20.28 percent to US $ 361.17 million in May.
