PANAJI: The Indian Coast Guard has rescued 24 passengers and two crew members from a tourist ferry boat which ran aground and facing fatigue in bad weather near Mormugao port in Goa. An official gave this information on Monday.

The boat 'Nerul Paradise' ran aground in rough weather due to waves more than three meters high and ran out of fuel off the Goa coast on Sunday, a Coast Guard spokesperson said in a statement.

“The doomed boat had left Panaji in the morning carrying tourists,” he said.

The official said the crew of Coast Guard ship C-148, which was returning from patrol, sensed signs of distress among the passengers and responded immediately.

"The ICG ship, facing rough seas, reached the distressed vessel. Tea was sent on board and the personnel on board the boat were calmed down," he said.

The Coast Guard team stabilized the situation and brought the boat to safe port, averting a possible disaster, the official said.

He said all passengers and crew members were provided medical aid upon arrival.
