Cromwell [US], Akshay Bhatia, an Indian-American, is in second place after the first round of the Travelers Championship. Bhatia shot 6-under 64, while Korea's Tom Kim had his lowest score of the season with 8-under 62 to take a two-shot lead.

Bhatia was bogey-free with four birdies and an eagle, while Kim was also bogey-free with eight birdies. Another Indian American was Sahith Thegala (71) T-33.

Bhatia shared second place with Rickie Fowler, Will Zalatoris and Kurt Kitayama, who shot 64 at TPC River Highlands.

Kim is looking for his fourth PGA Tour win the week of his birthday and Bhatia is looking for his third PGA Tour win. Bhatia won one title last year and another title this year just before the Masters.

Kim, who turned 22 on Friday, produced a stellar performance with the hot putter, hitting eight birdies to move ahead of Akshay with the first 18-hole lead of her career on the tour.

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler was among those a step behind, while Japan's Hideki Matsuyama, who signed for Boston Common Golf earlier this week for the inaugural TGL presented by SoFi starting next January, Scored 66. They were in joint sixth place.

Nine-time PGA Tour winner Matsuyama had a strong performance with four birdies on his last five holes to finish the first round tied for 13th, while Korea's Sungjae Im and Si Woo Kim shot 67 and 69 respectively. Another Korean, Byeong Hun An, withdrew during the first round due to illness.
