Chennai: The Indian contingent swept the medals tally by bagging an impressive 19 medals, including nine gold, on the second day of the South Asian Junior Athletics Championships on Thursday.

The achievement took India's total gold medal tally to 12, after the three gold medals won on the opening day of the championships.

Indians won the day's first gold in women's discus throw through Anisha, who threw the disc to a distance of 49.91m and bettered the previous meet record of 48.60m set by A Bajwa in 2018.

Meanwhile, Amanath Kamboj won silver with 48.38m, while Sri Lanka's JH Gaurangani won bronze with 37.95m.

Neeru Pahtak won India's ninth gold medal in the women's 400 meters with a timing of 54.50 seconds.

Her compatriot Sandra Mol Sabu won the silver medal with a timing of 54.82 seconds, while Takshima Nuhansa of Lanka won the bronze medal with a timing of 55.27 seconds.

Jai Kumar (men's 400m), Sharuk Khan (men's 3,000m), RC Jithin Arjunan (men's long jump), Hrithik (men's discus throw), Prachi Ankush (women's 3,000m), Unnati Ayyappa (women's 100m hurdles) and Pratiksha Yamuna (women's long jump) are the other gold medal winners for India.

However, in the men's 110m hurdles, Sri Lanka's WP Sandun Koshala won the gold medal with a timing of 14.06 seconds, ahead of India's Nayan Pradeep Sarde.

Sarde won the silver medal with a timing of 14.14 seconds, while E Vishwa Tharuka of Lanka won the bronze medal with a timing of 14.27 seconds.
