Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], Indian women's team head coach Amol Muzumdar gave full credit to the South African batsmen for putting up a good fight against India's huge total in the record-breaking single Test in the MA Chidambaram stadium.

It was a game where records fell on Day 1, with India posting the highest Day 1 total in women's cricket with a score of 525/4 on the board.

The opening day also saw the highest opening partnership in women's Test cricket, with Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana forging a 292-run partnership for the first wicket.

In response, South Africa received package 266. But the Proteas put up a strong fight trying to rewrite history. However, they managed to add a paltry total of 37 after India imposed a follow-on.

"Even if they get ahead after the follow-through, we may have a slim chance of chasing it. Full credit to the SA batsmen who applied themselves very well. They put on a good show. For a day and a half of the match we they did the proper testing," Muzumdar said after the match.

After India imposed the follow-on on the visitors, South African captain Laura Wolvaardt and Sune Luus gave the hosts a chance with a splendid performance with the bat.

They staggered the Indian bowlers as they showcased their artistry with the bat. The duo put together a 190-run stand to keep them in the thick of the action.

When the partnership looked dangerous, Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur took the responsibility and broke her position by breaking Luus' defense and ending her time in the crease for 109.

Wolvaardt, who was almost flawless during her time at the crease, scored 122 off 314 deliveries before being pinned in front of the stumps by Rajeshwari Gayakwad.

"In the second session of the third day, we kept them going, we couldn't get any wickets. Luus and Laura played very well. Thanks to them. Congratulations to our girls too. They held their own in the middle, fought hard and earned every wicket , credit for each player and even for the reserves," he added.

India continued their unbeaten streak in the Test format dating back to 2006. In December last month, they defeated England and Australia at home to keep their unbeaten record intact.

They were dominant against both sides, but South Africa managed to ask them a couple of questions that threatened their unbeaten run. For Muzumdar, it was a fantastic test match that tested the true character of both the teams.

"Talking about Test cricket, we played against England, and it was a historic Test match. A record-breaking Test match against England. We played against Australia, we won it at Wankhede. And this one against South Africa. I "This was a real test of character for both teams. It was a fantastic match to watch and also a fantastic test match for all the players. There is no better advertisement for cricket than this Test match," Muzumdar concluded.

After South Africa folded for 373 in the second innings, India chased down the target of 37 runs in 9.2 overs and sealed a comprehensive 10-wicket victory.
