In an exclusive conversation with ANI, Ricardo Dominguez García-Baquero, president of Spanish shipyard Navantia, said that both the Spanish government and the Spanish Navy are very keen on the progress of the P75 project and are ready to support in every possible way.

On the current status of field trials being conducted by the Indian Navy, Navantia Chairman said that field evaluation trials of Air Independent Propulsion by the Indian Navy have been planned in the last week of June at our shipyard in Cartagena.

He said, “Our partner L&T and we are fully prepared for these trials and we look forward to showcasing our world-class AIP technology to the Indian Navy.,

India wants to acquire six advanced conventional submarines with the AIP system which will allow them to stay underwater longer than previous generations of boats without this system.

Along with the L&T and Navantia alliance, German ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems and Mazagon Dockyards Ltd are also in the race for the over Rs 60,000 crore project.

Navantia has offered its S80 submarine design for the Indian Navy project, with the submarine already commissioned for the Spanish Navy in 2023.

Navantia claimed that the important aspect of the S80 design is the fact that it easily meets almost all the technical requirements of the P75 without requiring any redesign.

“For example, the AIP designed for the S80 produces over 300 kW of power and can, therefore, be used directly for the P75 without any redesign or scaling.This will substantially mitigate the major risks of the Indian Navy with respect to the P75 project,” the Spanish firm said.

Navantia Chairman said the S80 offered to the Indian Navy has the most contemporary features and includes latest technologies like 3rd generation BEST AIP (Bio-Ethanol Stealth Technology) and advanced sensor suite.

“L&T and Navantia have entered into an agreement with a partner to provide a proven lithium-ion battery technology for the project. Navantia is fully committed to meeting the stipulated indigenous content along with the technology transfer requirements outlined in the request for proposal. In line with India's strategic goal of achieving progressive self-reliance in the submarine sector," he said.Baquero further said that several top ranking Spanish government officials have met their Indian counterparts in the last few months and expressed their unwavering commitment to the project.

Navantia Chairman said the company is in constant dialogue with its Indian suppliers and has also shared the technical requirements of various equipment/systems to ascertain their technical capability.
