Trade between India and Russia stood at $65.7 billion in the financial year ending March 2024, an increase of 33 percent over the previous year.

Speaking at a media briefing, Kwatra said an important component of the bilateral meetings was how the partnership between India and Russia can also promote 'Make in India' and other manufacturing partnerships in various economic sectors.

"PM Modi raised the need to broaden the trade basket between the two countries and in this regard, talked about greater market access for Indian goods in both agricultural and industrial sectors," he said.

The two leaders also talked about the need to move forward on a free trade agreement (FTA) with the Russia-led Eurasian Economic Union (EEU).

"One round of discussions has taken place between the two countries and it is expected that this will accelerate in the coming months," Kwatra said.

The two sides have signed nine documents mainly in the economic field. The two leaders also talked about the new proposed corridor – the Vladivostok Eastern Maritime Corridor. He also focused on important areas of the economic sector, especially fertilizer supplies from Russia to India, which is directly linked to crop production and farmers' yield in India.

There was discussion between the two leaders on continuing cooperation on affordable nuclear energy projects in the nuclear energy sector. Earlier, PM Modi was awarded the Order of St. Andrew the Apostle the First-Called, Russia's highest civilian award.
