SAPDC is an important collaboration between SJVN and the Government of Nepal, which aims to enhance regional energy security and promote economic development through sustainable hydropower generation in the Arun River Basin.

Shakti Bahadur Basnet, Minister of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation of Nepal, Naveen Srivastava, Ambassador of India to Nepal; SJVN Chairman and Managing Director Sushil Sharma and other senior officials were present on the occasion.

Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister of Nepal said that this success brings us closer to the goal of providing clean, renewable energy and contributing to the sustainable development of the region.

He expressed his appreciation for the ongoing efforts and reaffirmed the commitment of the Government of Nepal to facilitate the timely completion of the Arun – 3 Hydropower Project.

India's Ambassador to Nepal Naveen Srivastava in his address reminded that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Nepalese counterpart Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' had last year agreed on a long-term power trade agreement for import of power from Nepal. He said the completion of the export-oriented 900 MW Arun 3 hydropower project will be a major milestone for it.

SJVN chief Sushil Sharma apprised the Nepalese Prime Minister that the successful completion of Head Race Tunnel is an important milestone in the construction of 900 MW Arun-3 Hydroelectric Project.

The CMD briefed the Prime Minister about the progress of the project and the associated 217 km long transmission line.

He informed that more than 74 percent work of the project has been completed and the remaining work is going on at a fast pace.

He said the Arun-3 hydropower project will start generating power by next year and has the capacity to generate 3,924 million units of power every year.
