New Delhi, India Medtronic on Friday said it has appointed Mandeep Singh Kuma as the new managing director (MD) of the company.

He replaces Michael Blackwell who has returned to the US to pursue new opportunities.

Kumar will oversee sales, marketing and commercial operations for Medtronic's business in India, the wholly owned subsidiary of Medtronic Plc said in a statement.

"Mandeep is a successful leader and has driven the business to growth during his past tenure," said Feng Don, vice president, Asia region-led markets, at Medtronic.

He said Kumar's proven leadership and excellent understanding of the Indian healthcare landscape will help the company indigenize complex innovations, build meaningful partnerships and continue to impact healthcare in India.

Kumar has extensive experience of over 25 years. His previous role was as Country Leader with Intuitive India, where he led the implementation of plans to broaden patient access and create a holistic ecosystem for robot-assisted surgery.
