Speaking at a conference organized by fabless semiconductor firm IVP Semiconductor, Krishnan said the government is helping the industry in creating an ecosystem to make semiconductors.

He highlighted the government's commitment to creating a conducive environment for the growth of the industry, including providing necessary support and infrastructure.

The Secretary also mentioned that IVP plays an important role in generating demand to fill the manufacturing capacity in semiconductor wafer fabs.

"I would like to congratulate IVP Semiconductor on building an Indian fabless chip company," he said.

According to global management consulting firm McKinsey, the semiconductor industry is expected to become a trillion-dollar industry globally, while the India Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA) estimates the sector to reach $100 billion by 2030.

Meanwhile, a recent report by TeamLease Degree Apprenticeship said the country will require 2.5 lakh-3 lakh skilled professionals in research and development (R&D), design, manufacturing and advanced packaging domains by 2027.

The report noted that this expansion is set to create approximately 1 million global jobs by 2025-2026, in line with India's broader economic and industrial growth objectives.
