New Delhi [India], India and Cambodia deliberated on cooperation in traditional medicine and e-governance, diversification of trade basket through identification of new products, bilateral investment treaty, recognition of Indian pharmacopoeia and collaboration in the pharmaceutical sector.

The second meeting of the India-Cambodia Joint Working Group on Trade and Investment (JWGTI) was hosted by India, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry said in a press release.

The meeting was co-chaired by Joint Secretary of the Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, Siddharth Mahajan, and Director General of International Trade, Ministry of Commerce of the Kingdom of Cambodia, Long Kemvichet. Representatives of the concerned ministries also participated in the meeting.

Siddharth Mahajan mentioned measures to deepen bilateral trade and investment and also emphasized the creation of cooperation and collaboration mechanisms in sectors of mutual interest, the statement added.

The meeting deliberated on cooperation in Traditional Medicine and e-governance, diversification of trade basket through identification of new products, Bilateral Investment Treaty, Recognition of Indian Pharmacopoeia and collaboration in the Pharmaceutical Sector.

The meeting discussed the progress of ongoing efforts for collaboration on digital payment based on Unified Payment Interface (UPI) to promote trade and tourism.

The Cambodian side explained the numerous investment opportunities that Cambodia presents for Indian companies. These opportunities cover several sectors with high growth potential.

The JWGTI was first held virtually in July 2022. This was the first physical meeting of the JWGTI after its institutionalization.

The JWGTI discussed various measures to improve the value and quantity of trade to facilitate trade expansion and promote investment. Both parties agreed on the need to have greater interaction to obtain concrete mutual benefits.
