Pune Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Thursday said India aims to host the 2036 Olympics and finish in the top 10 in the medal tally.

Speaking at the 'Viksit Bharat Ambassador - Yuva Connect' initiative at SP College here, the Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports said the aim was to make India among the top five sports nations by 2047.

"At Viksit Bharat, there is a need to give a special push to the sports sector as we aim to develop in all sectors. By 2047, we aim to be among the top five countries in sports. To achieve this goal and ensure that no Si We lose the opportunity of 2047, we must create world-class athletes," he stated.

"To develop such talent, we started Khelo India. With the help of Khelo India, young sportspersons should get an opportunity to play. We will have to identify sporting talents and provide them with necessary facilities. These talented individuals, in the coming days, will become athletes like Swapnil Kusale," he added.

The shooter Kusale, who won a bronze medal at the recently concluded Paris Olympic Games, was present at the event.

"We carried out a project called KIRTI (Khelo India Rising Talent Identification), through which more than one lakh talented sportspersons have been identified. From this group, more talented individuals were selected and provided special assistance under the Targeted Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS)." Mandaviya said.

According to TOPS, apart from top coaches, the selected athletes are provided with training, nutritional support and other necessary facilities as well as international exposure.

"This time, India won six medals (at the Paris Olympics), but eight athletes got fourth place. The athletes who got fourth place will improve their performance and aim for a place in the top three in the next Olympics. "India won 29 medals in the Paralympic Games, compared to 19 in the previous edition," he said.

"We aim to host the 2036 Olympics in India and plan to be among the top 10 in the medal tally," he said.

On this occasion, 'Viksit Bharat Ambassador - Yuva Connect' was launched from Pune.

Under this initiative, interactions will be carried out with students of various universities of Maharashtra to guide them in their responsibility to achieve the goal of 'Viksit Bharat'.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi has carefully planned for a developed India. Youth-centric decisions have been taken in the budget to meet this goal," Mandaviya said.

Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs Raksha Khadse urged students to register on 'My Bharat Portal' to contribute towards a developed India.
