Barmer constituency had seen a similar triangular contest in the 2019 elections when former defense minister Jaswant Singh had contested as an independent candidate after being denied a ticket by the BJP. However, he lost to BJ candidate Colonel Sonaram Chaudhary Former External Affairs and Defense Minister Jaswant Singh Jasol wanted to contest the 2014 Lok Sabha election from Barmer constituency.However, the party fielded Colonel Sonaram Chaudhary, who had lost the state assembly elections, as the BJP candidate for the Lok Sabha elections. Jaswan Singh Jasol became angry with this decision and he rebelled against the party. He contested the Lok Sabha elections independently.
